Cherie Blair: Heart Sank When Bush Elected In 2000

In her autobiography, Cherie Blair, wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, said her hsuband watched in horror as George W. Bush became president of the United States in 2000. “I think it’s fair to say that our hearts sank when the result was finally ratified.” However, after the Blairs got a chance to become more friendly with George Bush, their attitude changed into one of sharing a warm friendship with the man from Texas. “George is actually a very funny, charming man with a quirky sense of humour, the reason he gets a bad press is because he talks Texan.” Mrs. Blair became very fond of Laura Bush who she terms a “very warm, genuine person.”

It undoubtedly was a pleasant relationship for the Blairs but he was also prime minister of Great Britain which meant friendship had to be placed aside when interests of the British people were at hand. Unfortunately, Tony Blair allowed his personal feelings to get in the way of deciding what was best for his nation, and invading Iraq certainly was not beneficial to the people of Great Britain.
