An April Fool’s prank has upset the people of Australia who actually believed a Chinese firm had purchased the right to name the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground into a much nicer sounding “Mekong Cricket Ground.” The story which appeared on the Herald Sun’s website has elicited an outpouring of angry comments from aroused Aussies who will not tolerate being over run by the yellow hordes from up north. As one commented: “Let’s just give up the whole country to the Asians and be done with it” while another furiously said: “what did our diggers(soldiers) fight and die for in the past wars?” I don’t know, were they fighting over what would be the name of a cricket club? I thought they were fighting against Nazism and the Japanese armed forces.
Ah, April Fool’s Day in the southern climes of the world. Given the current economic situation in America I wouldn’t mind if the Chinese just tore up our debts. Heck, they could change the name of Rockefeller Center to Mao Tse-Tung Place for all I care. Oops, it is just in, the new Yankee Stadium will henceforth be called: “Wang Stadium.”
