Common Sense On Missile Plans

During the past two years this blog has campaigned against the Bush ill advised plan to construct anti-missile bases in Poland and the Czech Republic as threats to the security of Russia and bound to cause anger and resentment. Yesterday, President Obama announced the plans were cancelled and there was need to press the Reset button on relations with Russia. His ideas were supported by NATO officials who now are calling for close cooperation with Russia on all aspects of anti-missile defense systems.

NATO Secretary General, Anders Rasmussen, said “we should approve the potential for linking the US, NATO and Russia missile defense systems” into an integrated whole in order to work as a team rather than as opponents. All share the same concerns about Iran or some other nation gaining atomic bomb potential and threatening the world with destruction. Russia is as much worried about that possibility as any European nation or the USA.
