The International Atomic Energy Agency continues negotiating with the government of Iran over issues related to development of atomic energy. The IAEA has obtained initial agreements for Iran to provide information pertaining to its present nuclear facilities and agents of the IAEA have now gained access to some of Iran’s nuclear facilities. There is no question the Iranian government has not been completely truthful about its nuclear intentions but recent reports indicate while Iran continues to enrich its uranium capacities, there has also been a slow down of its overall nuclear program. Most experts more centrifuges would be in operation than are presently functioning.
The Iranian government may well be operating on a two front approach, continue with nuclear development while slowing down the process in order to avoid a confrontation with the West. This is the time to take forceful steps of entering into negotiation, not to focus on military attacks which reportedly are being planned by the Bush administration.
