The government of the Czech Republic has begun a massive ad campaign to convince the public of the importance of placing American missiles in their nation. Current polls indicate over 60% of the population opposes missiles in their country. Visiting US Congressman Trent Franks urged Czechs to support the missile plan because “They have to understand that this is about protecting their children, this is about protecting all of Europe.” The main enemy identified so far is either Iran or North Korea as the source of potential missile attackers.
North Korea has agreed to dismantle its nuclear program so they no longer pose a threat. Iran is probably years away from having nuclear weapons so they are not a threat. Russia knows that North Korea and Iran pose no threats so it jumps to the logical conclusion the missiles are aimed at Russia.
