Death And Free Speech

Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York signed into law two new provisions concerning behavior at funerals. Tghe laws trple the buffer zone around funerals being held on public grounds and require permits for demonstrations. The legislation is designed to hamper activities of the Westboro Babptist church of Topeka, Kansas which offers those burying loved ones an opportunity to hear their expressions of hate. They believe wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are God’s punishment for allowing homosexuals to remain alive.

There is no question their antics have interfered with numerous funerals. There is no question having them present at the death of a loved one is a nightmare for grieving relatives. We agree with the concept of extending the buffer zone. We disagree with preventing these nuts from expressing their idiocy. Even in death the morons of the world  have a right to express their craziness.
