Death In Afghanistan-Can We Stop It?

There is scant doubt some time this week or next, there will be a bombing from the sky or a fire fight with Taliban insurgents and in the end, Afghan people will be lying in the dirt and dead as a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. General David Rodriguez offered still another apology to the Afghan people and promised greater care in how force is used in dealing with militants. The Afghan government says six civilians died, provincial officials place the number at 12. In either event, a crowd of 400 marched in protest.

The basic issue is failure on the part of the American people to confront reality. If there are to be US troops fighting in Afghanistan it can’t be the same people going back over and over again to fight and face death. Either we get a draft and share the burden or we end the burden and leave.
