Australian troops in Afghanistan came under fire from Taliban sources and they responded with their own weapons hoping to flush out the enemy, but in the ensuing fight several people died, none of whom was Australian. During the fire fight five children were killed by Australian weapons along with a Taliban fighter and two adults. Not a single Australian soldier was even wounded in this minor incident of fighting against the Taliban. The Australian Defense Ministry expressed regret, “tragically a number of people were killed and wounded during this incident. Defense regrets the loss of innocent life.” The parents of the children will be pleased to learn that Australian forces are sorry that their children are dead.
The death of large numbers of civilians comes from extensive use of air power and from the lack of sufficient troops in Afghanistan to deal with the ever more powerful Taliban. Last September Australian soldiers mistakenly killed a deputy governor.
Oh, medical aid was being provided to those who were wounded.
