Death continue in Afghanistan as Afghan soldiers turn away from firing at the Taliban and now fire away at American and NATO troops. Each day witnesses an Afghan soldier who was supposedly being taught how to be an effective soldier decide to employ his lessons on the American advisor who taught them to him. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is urging President Karzai to do a better job of vetting new recruits.
Sorry, Mr. Panetta, we have inherited ten years of failure to assist in creating an effective Afghanistan government. The people of Afghanistan do not regard “government” as part of their lives but view the corrupt, incompetent crew that surrounds Karzai as the problem, not the solution. It is hopeless, it is too late to see the emergence of a competent Afghan government that will gain support from the population.
It is time to go.
