War and violence never takes a vacation from Israel or its neighbors. Israel air strikes in Gaza killed 17 people including Zuhair al-Qassi, head of the Popular Resistance Committees. In response, the al-Qassi groups fired 110 missiles but due to a new Israel defense system about 90% were shot down before hitting targets although at least one missile wounded a farmer in southern Israel. Hamas was not involved in firing rockets and urged Egypt to work for a cease fire.
The fear arising from this incident is whether it gives the Israel government confidence it can attack Iran and destroy any responding rocket attacks. Of course, an Israel government desiring peace would reach out to Hamas and establish a process of controlling militant groups in Gaza. Alas, that will not happen as long as the Netanyahu government rules Israel.
