Death Not In Combat

I served in the American armed forces during the Korean War, a  time when our society introduced the concept that poor young men go to war, and those with financial resources to to college in order to  avoid going to war and death. Those who served in Korea or during the Vietnam war went into combat, served a set period of time and then returned to the States and war was over.

Today, those who fight  continue to fight and continue to fight in deployment after deployment. Is it any wonder that our suicide rate goes up and up. So far this year there are 165 confirmed suicides and investigation continues into several other cases. When America made the decision to end the draft it placed unbelievable pressure on those who are in the armed forces. Either cease fighting or restore the draft. When your son is going off to war it is doubtful if you will be so anxious for war and war.
