Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, the people who led the nation of Israel were composed of men and women who wanted to create a democratic society in which those of all faiths would live in peace with one another. They respected the rights of Palestinians and wanted to forge a world in which Muslim and Jew could live in harmony with one another. Former Intelligence head, Amos Yadlin urged the Israel government to regain the moral center by displaying willingness to support ideas for Palestinian independence. He blamed the current Netanyahu administration for losing the “moral” ground and transforming Israel into the pariah land of this world.
He wants plans negotiated by former President Clinton and former Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to be offered to President Abbas. Both plans provided for an independent Palestine and allowed about 6% of the West Bank to become part of Israel. Yadlin believes the current obstinate and hating attitude of the Israel government has resulted in loss of “legitimacy” in the eyes of the world.
“I think we have different positions with our neighbors. They listen to what we say that there is no peace and no two state solution.” Israel must understand that while it might take ten or twenty years, the time will come when weapons of incredible destruction are available to any terrorist group and the end result will be the end of Israel.
