There was widespread anger at the release from jail by Scotland of Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, the convicted Lockerbie bomber. The ostensible explanation offered by UK officials is the aged murderer of over 200 people was suffering from terminal cancer and wanted to die at home in the company of his friends. There is speculation the UK and Libya also have discussed oil exploration and development rights in the north African country which would allow British oil interests to make a spectacular investment. British Cabinet member, Peter Mandelson, was furious at such speculation. “The idea that the British government and the Libyan government would sit down and somehow barter over the life of this Libyan is implausible and actually quite offensive.”
Libyan leader, Mommar Gadhafi went to great lengths to praise Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the Queen of England and Prince Charles for their interest in securing the release of this murderer. One can only wonder whey, of all those serving life sentences, Queen Elizabeth decided to select this man for investment of her time and energy. Then again, Gordon Brown was part of the lies and deception that involved Great Britain in the war in Iraq. Pardon our reluctance to doubt there might be a conspiracy.
