Drone On Death

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago there was a nation which believed that non-combatants had a right to escape military attacks. Since that time period, the US discovered that sending drone planes could kill people without allowing any Americans to die. Oh, perhaps, just perhaps, a few innocent folk might die, but that is simply collaterial damage and in the modern world we have to accept those fringe deaths. After all, no one is perfect.

A new study by academics at Stanford and NYU law schools blames President Obama for escalating a program that results in death to the innocent more than death to militants. “The dominant narrative about the use of drones in Pakistan is of a surgically precise and effective tool that makes the US safer by enabling ‘targeted killings’of terrorists, with minimal downsides or collateral impacts. This narrative is false.”

There are no completely accurate figures but authors of this study believe between 2,562 and 3,35 people have been killed in Pakistan between June, 2004 and today–of whom between 474 and 881 were civilians including 176 children.

The case is rested. Does the president care to respond??
