On or about October 11 this year, our planet’s population will reach the 7 billion number. Currently, about 78 million new mouths arrive on planet Earth each year demanding food, clothing, water and cell phones. Of the 7 billion about 1.8 billion are between the ages of 10–24 which means they will be producing a horde of new babies in the coming decades. Projections indicate a world population of 8 billion by 2025, 9 billion by 2043 and 10 billion by 2083. We are headed to a world crisis in food supplies, access to water and an increase in age expectancy that only places further strains upon world health facilities and allocation of money from the young to the old.
According to Republicans, we simply allow free enterprise to proceed without any government checks and balances. Can a world of 10 billion allow one percent to have control over 20% of the wealth? Is there need for legislation that restricts how much any single person can possess on planet Earth.
