It is now apparent any sign of support by America for a candidate in a Middle Eastern election is the kiss of death. Palestinians voted for Hamas when America wanted them voting for Fatah. Christians in Lebanon had an opportunity to fill the parliamentary seat of one of their dead heroes, Pierre Gemayel who was murdered by Syrian secret agents. His father stood for his seat, but the deeply divided Lebanese voted for a man who was friendly to Syria although the Syrians had just killed one of their heroes.
As an American I have enough difficulty keeping up with the fun and games here in the United States to even claim to have any type of comprehension for this bizarre electoral twist in Lebanon. Muslims in the nation are divided, Christians are divided, not one can obtain a majority, and chaos continues to reign in this beautiful, but sad nation. It was once considered the Paris of the Middle East, but today it is the Paris of chaos.
