It is all too common among contemporary Jews to interpret any comment that portrays Israel in a negative manner as an example of “self hating Jews.” Their world view is predicated on the belief that Jews in Israel are persecuted and in danger of being killed so noting their oppressive behavior simply aids those seeking the destruction of Israel. A group in Israel”Breaking The Silence”is composed of those who served in the Israel military and witnessed brutality against Palestinians, including children.
Hafez Rajani, a Palestinian, told members of the media how he was beaten by an Israel officer. An Israel soldier who was present at the incident said “he beat the boy to pulp.” The boy said the commander placed a gun to his head, but the soldier says he “actually stuck the gun barrel in the kid’s mouth.”A group of lawyers, funded by England’s Foreign Office claim the Israel military is guilty of serial breaches of international law in its treatment of children.
Why should one print this story? For the simple reason that as a Jew it is necessary for me to oppose any form of brutality toward other humans. For me the statement about Jews being God’s “chosen people” means we are obligated to fight for human rights. Who else but a Jew has a history of 2,000 years of persecution?
A self hating Jew is one who allows oppression and violation of human rights. To brutalize a child is to do what humans have done to Jews for a few thousand years.
