Members of the Westboro Baptist Church from Kansas are a rather unusual group of people who have decided that God wants them to wander the world attacking gays. For some reason, they have decided to attend funerals of dead soldiers and offer their rants of hate to those in mourning for the loss of a loved one. The United States Supreme Court ruled yesterday by a vote of 8-1 that the US Constitution protects these sick people.
To those who believe their right to commemorate one who died in the service of society, it is difficult acknowledging the right of sickos to disturb a solemn occasion with shouts and curses. But, as Americans, we must always protect the right of those we dislike to express their views, regardless of how obnoxious they might be. The Supreme Court is right even though those who protest are wrong.
