The Hamas government in the Gaza strip braced itself for a response by the Israel Defense Force after yesterday’s rocket attack on an Israeli base which caused about 40 casualties. A spokesperson for Hamas welcomed the attack calling it the “dawn of victory” and promised there would be more attacks. In the meantime Hamas government offices were evacuated and its police abandoned their bases. In the meantime President Abbas, head of Fatah, arrived in Saudi Arabia to seek support for his efforts at reconciliation with Israel. King Abdullah is reported upset because Hamas and Fatah failed to carry out the agreement he negotiated earlier this year.
Hamas lives in a dream world. it is fantasy to believe a few rocket attacks will defeat Israel. Hamas rhetoric may play to the gallery but it hinders any efforts at peace and reconciliation with Israel.
