German Leader Urges New Kyoto Agreement

Angela Merkel, leader of the German government visited Greenland which she examined thinning glaciers and learned that temperatures had risen 2.7 degrees Farenheit. She urged the United States and China to join a new world wide agreement that was necessary to replace Kyoto which expires in 2012. Merkel pointed out without cooperation of the United States and China it would be difficult to address global environmental issues.

Perhaps, George Bush should make such visits and observe first hand melting of glaciers. Perhaps, he would cease telling Americans that global warming does not demand immediate action. A continuing rise in temperature which results in melting of glaciers has a dramatic impact on low lying areas of the world– including such American areas.
