Julia Goodridge was among the plaintiffs in 2004 seeking the right to marry in the state of Massachusetts. Mitt Romney was the governor. The Supreme Court had cleared the way for gays and lesbians to marry in Massachusetts. Julia and a group of gays and lesbians finally got an interview with Governor Romney. They presented their arguments for being able to marry and, according to Julia, he sat there with stone face. Finally, he spoke: “Is there anything else? I didn’t know you had families.”
Julia responded: “Governor Romney tell me what would you suggest I say to my 8 year old daughter about why her mommy and ma can’t get married?”
Mitt: ‘I don’t really care what you tell your adopted daughter.”
