Barack Obama told a Jewish audience that if he is elected president “Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided.” However, he believes the future of Jerusalem is not for the United States to determine but must be decided by Israel and the Palestinian Authority. He will not rule out the possibility of Israel and the Palestinians agreeing on some type of joint governance system in Jerusalem. Naturally, some America Jewish leaders were not satisfied with his comment because he had the audacity to declare Israel and the Palestinians can make their own agreements. President Abbas insisted in any final settlement that Jerusalem will be capital of his nation.
For some reason Hamas was not aware Senator McCain has stated they want Obama to be elected. A Hamas spokesperson commenting on the Obama statement noted Obama’s comments “have confirmed there will be no change in the U.S. administration’s foreign policy on the Arab-Israel conflict.”
