High In Colorado

As I write these words, my eyes gaze out at sun in the sky, some white snow on the ground, and civilization still intact. I do not see signs of people running wild in the streets, no sign of burning buildings, and certainly no sign of staggering people ready to commit suicide. Believe it or not, the American nation is having another normal day of activity and children are still safe. Oh, there are about 750,000 people locked away in our prisons for committing the heinous crime of indulging in some form of drug use. OK, so it cost $42,000 a year for each of them, but society is safe from their drug use. However, in the state of Colorado, thousands waited all night for the opportunity to purchase the first legal marijuana. Believe it or not, but this is the first government entity which allow purchase of legal recreational use of marijuana in the world!!

People flew into Colorado from all over America to participate in this initial encounter with reality in our society. Of course, legal use of drugs was common in America throughout its history until using them was made into a crime at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is now time to make drugs legal, to have them sold in government stores and to use money saved for more important tasks in this society such as rebuilding our infrastructure, stimulating economic development and assisting our schools to succeed.

Eventually, we all can get high!
