US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in Egypt and appropriately visited newly elected President Morsi as well as military leaders. She will also engage in dialogue with feminists and secular leaders. As her car drove through Cairo, secular groups shouted insults at her, threw tomatoes and shoes and claimed the US was seeking to install the Muslim Brotherhood as the government of their nation.
Clinton responded with logic to these ridiculous charges. “I want to be clear that the United States is not in the business in Egypt of choosing winners or losers, even if we could, which of course, we cannot. She went on to emphasize that “every citizen has the right to live, to work and worship as they choose, whether they are man, woman, Christian or Muslim.”
The fault lies not in Clinton, it lies in failure of Egyptians to translate anger into effective government.
