Human Rights In West Papua

Indonesia is the largest Muslim nation in the world and aspires to set an example of how a Muslim society can become a symbol of democracy. However, for the past several decades it has controlled the island of West Papua and refused to allow its people the right of self determination. A group of people in the city of Manokwari gathered to protest in pursuit of their dream of independence. A group of students were confronted by 300 police who proceeded to beat the hell out of them since they dared to challenge Indonesian authority.

At least 11 were injured including several who suffered gunshot wounds. In the grand scheme of life on this planet what transpires in West Papua is of scant concer to all but a scattered few. The bottom line is West Papua has valuable resources and the Indonesian  government intends to keep them for itself. Such is life on planet Earth.
