Anyone who has studied the history of the German army in eastern Europe and Russia is painfully aware that in many areas, Nazi soldiers were welcomed as heroes, and that many local folk joined in the murder of innocent Jews–their fellow countrymen and neighbors. Of course, during the war, Hitler’s troops murdered an estimated 25,000,000 Russians. Ironically, those who once welcomed German forces wound up getting killed by the people they regarded as their liberators from communism. I never cease to be amazed and bewildered encountering stories from Russia and eastern European countries about the rebirth of Nazism and glorification of Adolf Hitler. How do people wind up regarding as their hero the person who killed their ancestors??
The FIFA warned Russia about its displeasure at behavior of Russian fans who displayed Nazi symbols during a World Cup game. These days neo-Nazis in Europe display a Celtic cross which resembles the swastika. Russia already is under warning because its fans chanted racist words and songs during a match as part of the Euro 2016 games. Again, please explain how Russians in 2016 think Adolf Hitler who killed over 30,000,000 Russians is a good guy??
