The Muslim country of Indonesia has for years been a symbol of a Muslim country which has bridged the gap between those holding differing religious views. However, according to Human Rights Watch there has been an upsurge in religious motivated violence by some Muslim groups against its Christian minority. The Indonesian government, its police and armed forces have watched passively while Islamist fanatic groups assault Christians and desecrate their churches. Naturally, the Indonesian Religious Affairs Minister insists his nation “has the best religious harmony in the world.”
Reality is the number of attacks on Christians continual to rise. Action against Islamist groups is more important than saying all is well. It isn’t!
