Iranian Leader-Focus On Nuclear Technology, Not Weapons

Former Iranian Supreme National Security Council secretary Ali Larijani urged his nation to remain focused on developing its nuclear capabilities. “Iran has reached a good level in nuclear technology due to its steadfastness and today their(Western) theorists should accept that Iran has gained access to nuclear technology.” He pointed out the International Atomic Energy Agency and its director, Mohamed ElBaradel has stated there is no evidence Iran is making atomic weapons. Larijani says even if Iran was thinking about making nuclear weapons that would not even happen for years to come. He urged his nation’s leaders to engage in negotiations with other nations about nuclear energy.

Larijani’s statement is an indication many clerics wish their nation to pursue a nuclear energy program, but are not particularly interested in developing atomic weapons. Despite what Bush and other hysterical commentators believe, Iran’s clerics are conservative and they are not stupid. Unleashing atomic weapons on another country would lead to the end of Iran and their power. This is the time to negotiate with Iran, not threaten it.

    if iranians leaders weren’t stupid as you state their president wouldn’t threaten another country of destruction………
    another point in which you are awfully wrong is that nuclear technology and nuclear weapons means the same the first means they have the second…..
    larijani is a diplomat he wants to dress it nice and ”manage” he thinks (and rightly so) that to negotiate without confrontation is a much better option in the short to medium term….
    the result in the long run though is the same: nuclear power ie nuclear weapons.
    where us citizens of the free world should remember is that larijani is just a diplomat serving a regime and is at the moment out of job…. the last meeting of the new iranian negotiator with javier solana was said to have been ”disastrous”….
    the real danger is that iran at the moment is run by ahmadinejad who makes no secrets of his plan and threats…..

    your hilarious we have been negotiating with iran for how many years now? 5?7? more? wake up there is nothing to negotiate
    the iranians themselves state everything is negotiable besides the fact the will continue with developing nuclear technology no matter what….

    You apparently are unaware that the Iranian government cooperated with US forces during the invasion of Afghanistan. They cooperated with the new Afghan government. The Iranian government offered the Bush administration to cease funding Hizbullah and Hamas and to accept Israel. Bush turned them down.

    You obviously don’t know much about the government of Iran. Ahmadinejad does not “run” Iran. Any expert on Iran will agree the real power is in the hands of Ayatollah Khamenei and the clerical council. I challenge you to find a single example of anyone in that group who had advocated making a nuclear weapon. In fact, Khamenei issued a fatwa against atomic weapons.
