Tensions between the US and Iran as well as between Israel and Iran raise new possibilities of a miscalculation by some party in these conflicts. James Clapper, head of US intelligence believes we are entering a period in which there is confusion as to what any party in these disputes might wind updoing. “Iran’s willingness to sponsor future attacks with the US or against our interests abroad will be shaped by Teharn’s evaluation of costs.” In reality, the US does not know what Iranian leaders regard as a reasonable cost.
Patience in foreign policy is often a virtue. Unfortunately, there are Israel leaders who are ready to rush for a judgment when prudence might be the right course of action.
