There are reports Pakistani forces fired on American military helicopters and forced them to return to Afghanistan. It appears the decision by President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani to defy US efforts to conduct military operations in Pakistan are being implemented by the Pakistani military. The incident reportedly took place near Angor Adda, a village in the tribal region of South Waziristan, the area Americans commandos and helicopters earlier this month conducted a raid on Pakistan territory. A security official said: “The US choppers came into Pakistan by just 100m to 150m at Angor Adda. From then our troops did not spare them, opened fire on them and they turned away.”
American and Pakistani military sources both denied the event ever happened, but Angor Adda villagers and officials insist they witnessed the shooting. Of course, Pakistan’s army chief, Ashfaq Kayani has been insisting all week his troops will not allow any further unauthorized American attacks in Pakistan.
