Is Nick In Time OK?

The prestigious Academy of American Pediatrics has been accused of sanctioning child abuse and of violating ethical standards after it issued a report which apparently argued there was validity in doing minor female circumcision. Some critics of any child circumcision, including Jewish practices for male babies, are an attack on the dignity of children. Actually, the Academy opposed female circumcision, but in the body of its report, it argued some pediatricians might justify a form of “ritualistic genital nick” in order to persuade parents not to take their daughter overseas for the genital circumcision procedure. The report argued: “there is reason to believe that offering such a compromise(of a nick) may build trust between hospitals and immigrant communities, save some girls from undergoing disfiguring and life-threatening procedures in their native countries, and play a role in the eventual eradication of (female cutting)”

The Academy is suggesting an interesting and non-threatening solution to a problem. It is worthy of consideration to any sensible person.
