Hamas leaders finally got the message clear from Egypt that continued firing of rockets and daring Israel to invade Gaza would result in the worst nightmare scenario possible to those in power in Gaza– an Israeli raid that might result in killing top leaders of Hamas. There are signs some Hamas officials are finally recognizing that provoking Israel might result in an invasion and its forces are not comparable to those of Hizbullah in Lebanon who also were aided by the presence of mountain defenses. Hamas has agreed to a 24 hour cease-fire and Israel has agreed to allow trucks to enter Gaza with supplies.
There is need for a third party recognized by both sides to ensure there is a truce which entails an end to rockets being fired into Israel and supplies entering Gaza without interference. Turkey best fits the role of a third party which is respected by both sides.
