Ships will be sailing from Turkey towards Gaza and they will carry items that are needed by the people of that encircled area. On the ship will be some individuals who seek a good fight with members of the Israeli armed forces. There will also be people who simply seek to demonstrate solidarity with the people of Gaza and to protest Israel policies toward Palestinians. However, according to Israel Admiral Elizer Marom, his navy is prepared for a great victory over those ships sailing without guns. “The Navy has prevented,” he thundered to the world, “and will continue to prevent the arrival of the ‘hate flotilla’ whose only goals are to clash with IDF soldiers, create media provocation, and to delegitimize the State of Israel.” Tough words, but do they make sense?
1. The government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has done more to “delegitimize the State of Israel” than any Arab political leader could do in his wildest dreams.
2. Israeli soldiers do have options. They can allow the ships to sail to Gaza, unload supplies under the eyes of Israel officials and avoid any conflict.
3. Or, Israel soldiers and sailors could greet with open arms and presents those on flotilla ships. During anti-Vietnam demonstrations in the 1960s, college students often approached soldiers who stood with fixed bayonets and offered them flowers of peace. How about offering those on the flotillas, flowers of peace and love?
The worse enemy the people of Israel confront is–THEMSELVES!
