Jail For Making Mistakes In Ukraine

The state prosecutor of the Ukraine is demanding that former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko be sent to jail for seven years because she negotiated a gas deal with Russia that was not in the best interests of her country. Tymoshenko lost a close election in 2010 to the current President Viktor Yanukovich. The defendant believes the entire trial is a farce. “This is a continuation of political repression.” If all governments operated on this theory that mistakes on the part of the executive or legislature were punished by jail, we would have empty halls of Congress and no one in the White House.

End the farce, end imprisonment of a former leader, and move on to common sense.
