The Japanese Democratic Party recently won a majority in the upper house of the Japanese parliament. Ichiro Ozawa is taking a hard line in dealing with the United States. A few days ago he bluntly told President Bush his party would no longer support American efforts in Iraq. Yesterday, he told the American ambassador that Japan would not provide aid to the US in its anti-terorism campaign. He said the war in Afghanistan was started by the United States “unilaterally without waiting for a consensus to be built within the international community.” In a curt aside, he praised former President George Bush for working with nations of the world in the Gulf war.
I suspect the chickens are coming home to roost for the current Bush in his unilateral approaches to foreign policy.
