Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had a great streak the past week, his party suffered devastating losses in parliamentary elections, he refused to meet with survivors of the Hiroshima atom bomb blast, and he let the United States Congress know of his displeasure with their vote ask for Japanese apologies to women enslaved during World War II. The prime minister intends to stick to his guns by refusing to offer any type of apology for Japan’s brutal WWII actions in forcing over 200,000 women from Korea and China to work in brothels catering to needs of Japanese soldiers.
The German people have done an amazingly honest job in dealing with the Holocaust. Their schools teach the truth and compensation has been paid for those who suffered. But, Japan continues its denial of enslavement of thousands of women who were forced into prostitution. One can only wonder why the denial of what happened?
