Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, the nation of Israel prided itself as being the center of democracy in the Middle East. Once upon a time, a long, long, time ago, Jews in Israel believed their country would fulfill the dream of Judaism for a world in which all religions enjoyed freedom and human rights were at the center of what a nation considered important. Alas, that was a long, long, time ago. Today, in place of Christian and Muslim religious fanatics, we have Jewish religious fanatics.
A fight erupted in the Knesset after MK Danny Danon called for firing a principal of a school in the Negev town of Arara for having the audacity to take students to a human rights march. When MK Raleb Majadee defended the principal, she had water water thrown on her head by MK Anastassia Michaeli who shouted, “you are marching against the state.”
Yes, we Jews have come a long, long way when attending a human rights march is “marching against the state.” I assume this means the Netanyahu government regards human rights as equivalent to Nazi Brown shirts attacking Jews!
