Scarcely a day goes by without a story from some place in the Middle East or Africa or Asia or Europe that deals with a young girl who refused family demands that she marry X rather than her heart’s delight of Y. In Kunduz, Afghanistan two men were arrested for killing a fifteen year old girl. One of the men had proposed marriage to the girl but her family responded with a “no.” They proceeded to slit her throat.
Figures by the British charity Oxfam claim that 87% of Afghan women report having experienced physical, sexual or psychological violence or forced marriages. I still can not figure out why a man who claims to love a girl kills her because her “Parents” said, no. Shouldn’t he kill the parents??
