There are many young Americans who thrill to the voice of Ron Paul declaring it should be the policy of this nation never to get involved in the affairs of foreign ones. We assume Ron Paul in the 1930s would have been an isolationist who opposed confronting Nazi Germany of the Japanese government which was killing millions of Chinese people. Fortunately, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has become involved in Burma. She has worked hard to foster democracy.
Yesterday, the famous Burmese human rights leader, Aung San Suu Kyi registered her candidacy to seek a seat in Parliament. Thousands greeted her because they understand a free election will end the rule of Burmese military leaders. Sorry, Ron Paul, sometimes democracy can be achieved without firing a shot. But, it requires American leaders to become leaders in the world.
