It has often been noted that members of the military fight the current war with the mindset of the previous one. General Stanley McChrystal, the president’s choice to head forces in Afghanistan, has come up with a remarkably innovative military strategy–send more troops! “Resources will not win this war, but under-resourcing could lose it” proclaimed the military genius of the moment. “Although considerable effort and sacrifice have resulted in some progress, many indicators suggest the overall effort is deteriorating.”
Let’s get this straight. We have send 20,000 more troops and the “effort is deteriorating.” Ok, this undoubtedly means 20,000 more troops will result in the situation “deteriorating” or will it get better? of course, the good general does admit there is need for new military strategies and this is most probably why he wants thousands of more troops.
How about a military strategy that is based on fewer troops?
