Military Budgets

The annual development of a budget for the United States armed forces is proceeding according to schedule. The President or some members of Congress raise the possibility that some money can be cut from the budget. Within moments, lobbyists, congressmen from districts which rely on military orders, begint to complain the sky will fall and al-Qaeda will be destroying America. OK, so the military wants a new fighter plane whose cost is about $300 billion. Unless we have this fighter plane the  air force of Andorra will blast America to pieces.

The only president in the twentieth century who stood up to the military was Dwight Eisenhower, former commander of English and American forces in WWII. He understood that military people know only one word–MORE. As Ike so well put it, the danger facing America is not from foreign attack, it is from the military-industrial complex
