More Hours, Less Learning!

Among the fundamental beliefs of American society, regardless of political party is the firm conviction a major problem in education stems from lack of time students spend in class. Actually, American students spend twice as many hours engaged in academic work than students in Finland and the latter is considered among the best educational systems in the world. A recent report noted that Danish students had jumped to fifth place from their prior tenth place in International reading. And, had a similar improvement in math. So, what is the reaction of the government– increase hours in academic for!!

School should be a place in which students learn and in which they enjoy the experience. A typical American elementary child fills out ONE THOUSAND COPY SHEETS each year. Rote memory is boring, fun makes school fun and when one is happy,  learning increases! Having students fill out more sheets only leads to more trees being cut down in the forest.
