Mohamed Morsi became president of Egypt having pledged to respect the rights of all members of society. He originally promised that the Muslim Brotherhood would not seek the office of president, but that promise was cast away. He promised to have a government that included people from all parties, that promise was never kept. He promised to respect the right of dissent, that promise was never kept. He promised to protect the rights of Christian Coptics, that promise was never kept. Now, he promises to oppose legislation that would force thousands of independent judges to retire and have them replaced by members of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Most judges are not under the control of the Muslim Brotherhood. Morsi controls teh executive, he is working closely with the military, and now all that is left outside of his control is the judiciary. Can anyone believe that his goal is an Egypt in which there are independent judges??
