Jawaharial Nehru was a great leader of India whose Socialist background placed him in the forefront of fighting to end discrimination and hatred. He desired to find a way to bridge Muslim and Hindu differences but was unsuccessful. His grandson lives at a different time in a different India and supposedly he told right wing Hindus, that all Muslims should be sent to Pakistan. The recording captures him saying, “all the Hindus stay on this side and send the others to Pakistan.” He then is seen making a gesture and saying that after the election, the right wing Baharatiya Janata Party (BJP) “will cut their throats.” Avrun Ganhdi claims the recording was doctored and he never said the words. “These are not my words, this is not my voice. I am a Gandhi, a Hindu and an Indian in equal measure.”
The question he did not answer is why he was giving a talk before members of a right wing nationalist group which has a record of anti-Muslim actions. If his goal was reconciliation and peace with Muslims, why did he speak before the BJP?
