North Korea Backs Down

Voices of war are loud in the Middle East. Israel wants to blow up Iranian nuclear facilities on ground that Iranian leaders will develop an atomic bomb and that threatens the security of Israel. In Asia, the Communist government of North Korea announced it would supend uranium enrichment and impose a moratorium on nuclear and long-range missile tests. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hailed the announcement as a “modest first step” in the achievement of peace and security in Asia. She also announced that US officials will meet with North Korean officials to finalize a package of  240,000 metric tons of food.

North Korean diplomats insist they seek to maintain a “positive atmosphere” in preparation for future negotiations with the USA. Clinton hopes the new leader of North Korea,Kim Jong Un is prepared to move away from the policies of his recently deceased father, Kim Jong Il. It is certainly worth exploring this new possibility.
