Once again Barack Obama has shown his true colors by attacking the foundation of the free enterprise system. Anyone who works in the field of education is well aware of colleges that sell degrees and do not prepare students for any meaningful work lives. Famous schools like the University of Phoenix can hardly claim to have a vast majority of their students obtain a BA or other degrees. There are all too many for-profit colleges which profit on the backs of those seeking a degree.
President Obama issued an executive order which made clear those in the service or veterans would not be exploited. As his spokesman noted: “Since the post 9/11 GI Bill became law there have been reports of aggressive and deceptive targets of service members, veterans and their families by educational institutions, particularly for-profit career colleges.” His order demands students be provided information on how many students actually complete courses, get a degree how much do they wind up in debt.
Alas, Republicans are angry at these demands. Representative Jeff Miller denounced the president’s order as another example of an “attack on free enterprise.” What exactly is the problem requiring colleges to inform prospective students as to the graduation rate? I assume a good college boasts of this accomplishment, that is, if they really are a good college.
