The Pakistani Taliban has declared a cease fire in order to encourage peace talks with the government of Pakistan. “We are not attacking the Pakistan army and government installations because of the peace process” delcared hakimullah Mehsud, leader of the Taliban. During the past several days there have been rumors of such peace negotiations and it is now clear the Pakistan government is trying to end its conflict with Muslim insurgents.
Pakistan Taliban leaders may be divided. Quite a few have been killed by US drone attacks. Some may be weary of constant war. The real question is whether a peace agreement will result in allowing Afghan Taliban soldiers to go to Pakistan, get more weapons and rest. THAT is the issue?
