Pakistan Governor Killed Over Blasphemy Law

The most difficult task for a leader is to recognize reality and know when it is impossible to alter the reality of what is. Salman Taseer, governor of the province of Punjab in Pakistan was gunned down by a member of his own security force because of the governor’s stance on human rights. A Christian woman working as a day laborer was accused by a group of Muslim women, also working in the fields, of blasphemy because she supposedly insulted the Prophet. The accused woman was a Christian which means, by definition, she can not believe Muhammed was connected to God. Pakistans’ blasphemy laws make insulting the Prophet a crime punishable by death. So, this poor illiterate woman was condemned to death. Salman Taseer denounced the decision as well as laws about blasphemy which have no place in a modern society. The security guard said he killed the governor because of his opposition to the blasphemy law.

Isn’t it about time the US got the hell out of Pakistan. We can not save a nation of over 150,000,000 people who believe in such nonsense as blasphemy laws. Unless those in leadership positions create a modern educational system and provide poor people with the semblance of a modern life, there will be other decent people who are gunned down. Nations save themselves.
