Peace Now In Afghanistan??

A British think tank, the Royal United Services Institute has been interviewing Taliban leaders for several months in order to ascertain their thinking regarding peace. During intensive discussions with four prominent men in the Taliban leadership it became apparent they were as tired of the fighting as are Americans. “The Taliban would be open to negotiation of a ceasefire as part of a general settlement and also as a bridge between confidence-building measures and the core issue of distribution of political power in Afghanistan.”

They also made clear no negotiation will take place as long as President Karzai has power. The central issues as to what extent will the Taliban allow  such changes as women being able to receive education and serve in various professions. Will the Taliban accept there can not be a return to the brutality of the 1990s?
