Play German Composers In Israel?

The legacy of the Holocaust lives on in Israel. Jews and the government of Israel have long since put aside what happened during the regime of Hitler in order to establish positive working relations with the German government and people. But, the issue of music remains a sore point in this relationship. There is no doubt that Richard Wagner was a favorite of Adolf Hitler and, most probably, was an anti-Semite. As a result no Wagner music has been performed by major Israel orchestras for over half a century.

However, his music will once again be heard since an Israel symphony orchestra will play Wagner. The issue of music is fascinating. Do I hate the music because I hate its composer? An interesting philosophical question?
